We proudly source most of our wood locally from small family-owned mills, supporting our community while ensuring the highest quality materials.
Understanding Wood Grain
The way a log is cut dramatically affects the appearance, stability, and character of the final wood. We offer three milling options to achieve your desired look.
Plain / Flat Sawn
The most common and economical cut. Produces a cathedral or flame-like grain pattern with wide, sweeping arcs. Offers beautiful figure and character, though slightly more prone to movement.
Best for: Rustic furniture, tabletops, decorative pieces
Quarter Sawn
Cut perpendicular to the growth rings, revealing straight, parallel grain lines. In oak, this exposes the beautiful ray fleck pattern. More stable and resistant to warping than plain sawn.
Best for: Fine furniture, flooring, cabinetry
Rift Sawn
Cut at a 30-60 degree angle to the growth rings, producing the straightest, most uniform grain. Minimizes ray fleck while maximizing stability. The most consistent appearance of all cuts.
Best for: Table legs, trim, modern designs
